Parish Nurse

Kathy Taydus

We've recently begun this exciting new ministry.  As we are able, we will update this page with information.

On the first and third Sundays of each month (corresponding to Fellowship Times), a nurse in our congregation will be available in the Covert Room after worship to give "blood pressure" measurements.  Just stop in.

Just a Minute….

Swine Flu

Why it is called swine flu?

Swine Influenza is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that cause regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen.

Signs and Symptoms in Humans:

   Fever       Body aches     Sore throats

  Cough       Headache       Fatigue

  Diarrhea     Vomiting       Chills

Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their nose or mouth.

Prevention: WASH YOUR HANDS!!!

You can prevent the swine flu in the same manner that you prevent influenza. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 15 to 20 seconds. When soap and water are not available, alcohol-based disposable hand wipes or gel sanitizers may be used.

Treatment:

An antiviral called Tamiflu can be given. Tamiflu works best if taken within the first 2 days of illness. Stay home and avoid contact with others as much as possible. Call the parish nurse, Kathy Taydus at 563-3482 for more information or for special help if you are sick.
If you become ill with flu like symptoms, contact your doctor.
