First
United Methodist Church offers education for ages 2 to 102 through Sunday
School, Vacation Bible School and its Wednesday Night LOGOS Family Ministry.
Safe
Sanctuaries
Our Annual Conference has mandated that our churches participate in
"Safe Sanctuaries," a program designed to protect our
children and youth. In past years we have developed statements
of support. This year we have asked everyone who participates
in activities (teaching, helping, serving) for our children and youth
to complete Act 33 & 34 clearance forms (a State Police criminal
check and a Child Abuse check).
CONTINUING
EDUCATION There are three
adult Sunday School classes meeting at 9:30 AM from
September through May. Child care is provided.
The
Allen Class, which meets in Parlor A,
continues with their winter study, "Luke, Old Testament"
led by Mary Merenick. The lessons in January focus on Old Testament
People of Commitment based on scripture from Exodus, Joshua
& Judges.
The
Jolley Class (meeting in the Covert Room) for adults
of ALL ages will begin a video/discussion study entitled
"The Bible Jesus Read" by Philip Yancey and
led by Dr. Jeff Sterling. Join us in trying to understand some of the
mystery and majesty of what we Christians call the "Old Testament"
(The Hebrew Scriptures).
The
"Faithful Followers", (Parlor B) an adult
Sunday School Class for adults of ALL ages (currently
meeting at 9AM), continues with Focus on the Family's "The
Truth Project." This is a DVD-based in-depth Christian
worldview experience, (in a small group setting), that practically and
personally introduces you to the truth claims of God. For more information
on this class and the studies being offered, please contact Karen Yourchisin,
the group's facilitator.
PRAYER
AND BIBLE STUDY
Prayer
and Bible study are important aspects of our ministry of Education here
at First United Methodist Church Warren.
Bible Study:
Dr. Sterling leads a Bible
study every Tuesday morning at 11:00. This is a chapter by chapter
study of books of the Bible. This term we are studying Paul's
letter to the Romans.
We hold a Women’s Study every Tuesday
at 1:00 PM in the Covert Room,
...a Men’s Study every Wednesday
morning at 6:45 AM in the Covert Room, ...both of which are
book studies covering a variety of topics.
Also, we host a Pastor’s study every
Friday at 7:00 AM in the Covert Room, which is a chapter by
chapter study of the Bible.
YOUTH
Sunday school classes are offered for teens in both Junior
and Senior High. They meet each Sunday from 9:30-10:30,
September through May.
CHILDREN
Sunday School classes
are offered for age 2 through grade six from 9:30-10:30 each
Sunday morning, September through May.
Our
Children are on the first round of our new rotational,
"learning station" based program called "Faith
Forest," which begins each Sunday morning at 9:30AM in
Founders Hall on the second floor of our building. The first five-week
rotation is on "The Feeding of the 5,000" from the Gospels.
Children are divided into age level groups, with groups named after
local animals: Chipmunks, Otters, Bobcats and Bears.

As
it states in our Baptismal Covenant, "As members
of the body of Christ and in this congregation
of the United Methodist Church, we will faithfully participate
in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence,
our gifts, and our service, that in everything
God may be glorified through Jesus Christ." We all
take this vow when children are baptized and confirmed. Please remember
this vow and bring your children to Sunday School/Church so that they
can enter into a new & exciting relationship with Jesus Christ.
If you're currently NOT attending Sunday School,
why not join one of the classes mentioned and deepen your faith and
relationship with our AWESOME God!
In addition,
the LOGOS Youth, which meets every Wednesday afternoon
from 5:45-6:45pm (Sept. - March), conducts a Bible study.
Logos
Acts
2:42, " They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching
and fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and the prayers"
is the scripture that binds our LOGOS Family Ministry together. The
LOGOS Family Ministry is our after-school program for grades
Preschool -12, which meets every Wednesday
(Sept. - March) directly after school and ending at
6:45pm., offering our young people the positive aspect
of summer camp or conference, but on a weekly basis.
Not only does the LOGOS Family Ministry
help meet the needs of youth, but this ministry is a valuable
tool for family involvement and renewal, as parents
and other members of the church are drawn together into active
participation. That's
what we strive for in our LOGOS family ministry. If you want to build
a relationship with children, youth and other adults, then come to First
UM Church on Wednesday evenings and see that LOGOS
is the place to be!! Why not stop by and see Acts 2:42
hard at work here at First Church where our one and only rule is: "Everyone
is to treat everyone else as a child of God. No one has the right to
treat anyone else as if they do not matter".
LOGOS is
intentional about the nurture of Christian relationships
in a disciplined approach, grounded in a process of call, in order to
fulfill our mission to bring people---especially young people---into
relationship with God through Jesus Christ! It
takes the commitment of the entire congregation to
make this ministry successful. We need volunteers in the following
areas:
3:30-4pm
assist in children's choir (Preschool - Grade 6)
4:00-5pm
assist w/Jr/Sr High orchestra/choir (7-12 Grades)
4-4:30pm
Study time for Grades 1-6
4:30-5pm
share a gift/talent/hobby during our recreation time
(Grades 1-6)
5-6:00pm Table
parent during Family Time
5:45-6:45
assisting in Bible Study (currently in Grades 2 &
3)
When
you help in this ministry, you're making a commitment that you won't
regret!!
ATTENTION
LOGOS PARENTS & VOLUNTEERS: Whenever after-school activities
(or school) are cancelled due to weather, LOGOS will also be
cancelled. We will attempt to contact the elementary/middle/high
schools (however understand that some schools won't announce our cancellations),
cook team members, recreation leaders, etc separately. Please reinforce
this policy at home to make sure they understand and know what to do
when activities are cancelled.
