First United Methodist Church offers education for ages 2 to 102 through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and its Wednesday Night LOGOS Family Ministry.
Safe Sanctuaries Our Annual Conference has mandated that our churches participate in "Safe Sanctuaries," a program designed to protect our children and youth. In past years we have developed statements of support. This year we have asked everyone who participates in activities (teaching, helping, serving) for our children and youth to complete Act 33 & 34 clearance forms (a State Police criminal check and a Child Abuse check).
CONTINUING EDUCATION There are three adult Sunday School classes meeting at 9:30 AM from September through May. Child care is provided.
The Allen Class, which meets in Parlor A, has begun their spring Bible study focusing on the book of I & II Chronicles: "Signs of God's Covenant", led by Jane Betts & Mary Merenick. When did you last read through Chronicles? The most wonderful thing about God's word is that it will never become irrelevant to God's people. You will study such things as : The Ark Comes to Jerusalem, God's Covenant with David, God Calls Solomon to Build the Temple, Fulfillment of God's Promise & Josiah Renews the Covenant.
The Jolley Class (meeting in the Covert Room) will begin a study on Deepening Our Prayer: The Heart of God, led by Rev. Starr. There will be lessons passed out that include daily prayer activities. And class work will be designed to learn and explore means of prayer.
The "Faithful Followers", and adult Sunday School Class for adults of ALL ages led by Tawni Betts, (meeting in Parlor B), have begun their their next video/book study entitled "Living the Good Life Together-Intimacy:Pursuing Love"l. Do you wish you were closer to God? I think many of us feel that way and long to do something about it. In this study you will explore many ways to experience intimacy with God, with yourself & with others. Topics include: Knowing Who You Are-And Whose You Are, Seeing God's Love in Others, Connecting With a Community of Faith & Practicing Intimacy as a Spiritual Discipline. Come join this group as they continue to discover how to rest IN God and the gift of being loved BY God.
We STILL are in need of a co-teacher for the 5th/6th Grade Sunday School Class. This is NOT a weekly commitment. Please contact Heidi Ketzko for more information.
PRAYER AND BIBLE STUDY Prayer and Bible study are important aspects of our ministry of Education here at First United Methodist Church Warren.
Bible Study: Rev. Starr leads a Bible study every Tuesday morning at 11:00. This is a chapter by chapter study of books of the Bible. We are currently in First Samuel.
We hold a Women’s Study every Tuesday at 1:00 PM in the Covert Room, ...a Men’s Study every Wednesday morning at 6:45 AM in the Covert Room, ...both of which are book studies covering a variety of topics. Also, we host a Pastor’s study every Friday at 7:00 AM in the Covert Room, which is a chapter by chapter study of the Bible.
YOUTH Sunday school classes are offered for teens in both Junior and Senior High. They meet each Sunday from 9:30-10:30, September through May.
In addition, the LOGOS Youth, which meets every Wednesday afternoon from 4:00-5 PM (Sept. - March), conducts a Bible study.
CHILDREN Sunday School classes are offered for age 2 through grade six from 9:30-10:30 each Sunday morning, September through May.
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and fellowhip, to thebreaking of bread, and the prayers." - Acts 2:42 LOGOS This is the scripture that binds our LOGOS Family Ministry together. The LOGOS Family Ministry is our after-school program for grades 1-12 (also included in this ministry is the addition of our PreSchool class), which meets every Wednesday (Sept. - March) directly after school ending at 6:45pm., offering our young people the positive aspect of summer camp or conference, but on a weekly basis. Not only does the LOGOS Family Ministry help meet the needs of youth, but this ministry is a valuable tool for family involvement and renewal, as parents and other members of the church are drawn together into active participation. That's what we strive for in our LOGOS family ministry. If you want to build a relationship with children, youth and other adults, then come to First UM Church on Wednesday evenings and see that LOGOS is the place to be!! Why not stop by and see Acts 2:42 hard at work here at First Church where "Everyone is to treat everyone else as a child of God. No one has the right to treat anyone else as if they do not matter".
LOGOS is intentional about the nurture of Christian relationships in a disciplined approach, grounded in a process of call, in order to fulfill our mission to bring people---especially young people---into relationship with God through Jesus Christ! It takes the commitment of the entire congregation to make this ministry successful. Why not volunteer to share a gift/talent and start building a relationship with our children and youth. It could be as a table parent during dinner, sharing some talent during our recreation (painting, fly tying, arts/crafts, knitting, quilting, crocheting, gym-just to name a few), tutoring that child that's having difficulties with a certain school subject, and many more.
ATTENTION LOGOS PARENTS & VOLUNTEERS: Whenever after-school activities (or school) are cancelled due to weather, LOGOS will also be cancelled. We will attempt to contact the elementary/middle/high schools (however understand that some schools won't announce our cancellations), cook team members, recreation leaders, etc separately. We will be talking to the children and youth about this policy, but please reinforce this policy at home to make sure they understand and know what to do when activities are cancelled.
